Applied AI

What is applied AI?

Applied AI is artificial intelligence built into real work and used every day. Not researched, not planned, not presented: in use.

  1. Two ways a company can spend six months on AI

Picture two teams. The first spends six months on an AI strategy: workshops, a long deck, a roadmap. The deck is presented on a Thursday and, by the following week, nobody has opened it again.

The second is one manager who spends a weekend teaching an AI how she runs her week: her meetings, her decisions, who she depends on. By Monday it is drafting her agenda. By the end of the month she cannot picture working without it.

Both teams "did AI". Only one of them has applied AI.

  2. The short answer

Applied AI is AI that has been built into someone's actual work and is used every day. The test is not how advanced the technology is. The test is whether the work changed.

Plenty of impressive AI is not applied. A research model is not applied until someone's job depends on it. A strategy is not applied until a system is running. A training course is not applied until the people trained have something to use on Monday.

  3. How it differs from AI strategy, AI training and AI research

AI research builds new models and methods. AI strategy decides where AI should go and produces a plan. AI training teaches people to use tools that already exist. Applied AI is the step that puts a working system into a real person's real week.

These are not rivals. Most organizations need more than one. But they are different jobs, and confusing them is why so many AI efforts produce a document instead of a result.

  4. Three tests for whether AI is applied

    1. Is it used every day? If people have to remember to open it, it is a tool they own, not a system they rely on.

    2. Does it know the context? A general AI assistant answers anyone's question competently and generically. Applied AI has been given the role, the decisions, the people and the numbers, so its answers are about the person asking.

    3. Does someone keep it current? AI systems go stale quickly. If work changes and nobody updates the system, it slowly drifts out of date, and trust goes with it. Applied AI includes the person or process that keeps it sharp.

  5. What applied AI looks like in practice

An AI second brain trained on one executive's decisions, people and numbers. An AI agent that runs a recurring workflow from start to finish. An independent AI reviewer whose only job is to find what is wrong with another AI's work before it ships.

The founder of AI.me runs his own business this way, and writes up what broke along the way. AI Doesn’t Break. It Drifts. is a good place to see why the third test matters, and AI Wrote the Code. I Cleaned Up the Mess. shows what the second looks like when it is missing.

  6. Applied AI in Saudi Arabia

Organizations in the Kingdom have the same access to AI tools as anyone else. What separates the ones getting value is whether the AI is applied: built around a real role, used daily, and kept current. That is the work AI.me does, from Riyadh, in person and remotely across Saudi Arabia.

AI.me builds an AI second brain for working executives and keeps it current afterwards through a named relationship manager. Details are in the FAQ. If you want one built around you first, apply for an alpha place.
